SHOP NEWS
LINN WEEK STARTS TUESDAY 21st APRIL
[ 10th April 2009 ]
As is customary at this time of year, Linn are putting most of their prices up from 1st May. Consequently, we are holding a LINN WEEK here from Tuesday, 21st April until Saturday, 25th April where we can play you any combination of Linn equipment that may interest you so that if you wish, it can be ordered at the current price.
For details of all price increases please contact the shop.
Linn are now accepting orders on new equipment at current prices until the close of business on Thursday, 30th April and any item ordered after this time will be subject to the new price list.
Some people may be surprised that in these difficult times Linn are putting up their prices at all. But these increases, whilst unfortunate, reflect the higher material prices of buying in parts from abroad where the value of Sterling has fallen at least 20% against the Dollar in which currency these parts are purchased.
Linn's MD, Gilad Tienfenbrun writes:- "Ever increasing input costs now compel us to change our pricing to correctly reflect today's economic conditions".
Linn have had a buoyant year and are "on the crest of a wave" at the moment with the success of the LP12 turntable Keel subchassis Ekos SE tonearm and upgrades and growing interest in their new Digital Streamer technology paving the way forward.
The Klimax, Akurate, Majik and Sneaky Music DS are Linn's new source components and the first authentic hi fi product to stream digital music over a standard home network.
In true Linn “the source comes first” tradition, the best of these, the Klimax DS sets a new, previously unattainable performance standard by retrieving more information from the network than other Digital Music Players.
These four DS players play the highest quality music formats available today including 24 bit 192kHz Studio quality files available as downloads from the Linn Records website, WAV, FLAC, Apple Lossless, MP3 etc.
Music is stored remotely on a standard networked hard drive array, delivering the most secure, flexible, reliable and upgradeable solution for the end user.
A hand-held, wireless PDA, provides quick and easy access and control of music; incorporating Linn graphical touchscreen control software the Linn Gui. Popular alternatives to control the DS include iPod Touch or iPhone with dedicated alternative touchscreen software. The DS system can, of course, also be controlled in a conventional manner by your PC, Laptop or Mac computer.
Remote storage (either on dedicated hard drive including back-up or your home computer) and no moving parts within the DS itself, means that the delicate music signal is never disturbed to guarantee pure and perfect performance.
Results speak for themselves, and we invite you to listen here at the shop.
One of the most cost effective ways of dramactically improving your Linn system, no matter whatever source you are using, is to "Go Aktiv". This is to say to employ a dedicated amplifier to power every drive unit in the loudspeaker system individually. This can be done with the majority of Linn Loudspeakers and the majority of Linn Power Amplifiers but requires dedicated small electronic Crossovers which are fixed within the Linn Power Amplifiers to modify their frequency response. The passive crossover inside the loudspeaker itself is then by-passed and the modified amplifier drives the cones directly. Passive Crossovers employed inside loudspeakers require power and energy to drive them. They can lose detail (up to 30%), soften edges and filter emotion in the music.
Results on upgrading to an 'Aktiv' system are often melodramatic, with much greater ease and clarity, more volume, less distortion and the ability to play very quietly with clarity (often very useful late in the evening!). If you are interested in exploring this as a possibility for your system - just give us a ring and we can talk it through. Interestingly, the price of 'Aktiv boards' for the Linn Power Amps has actually been marginally reduced this May!
